We came here to celebrate my brother-in-law’s birthday, and unfortunately, we really should have chosen somewhere else.

First, I want to recognize our waitress, Lydia. She was kind, attentive, and genuinely pleasant throughout the evening. She even apologized after we told her about our experience with another staff member, and none of the issues we had were a reflection of her service.

When we arrived around 8:15 PM, we overheard one of the servers (I believe his name was Bruster or something similar) tell Lydia that the kitchen would be closing at 8:30 PM and that they were only accepting fried orders from that point on. This was confusing because the sign at the entrance clearly states the restaurant closes at 10:00 PM and that the kitchen closes 30 minutes before closing, which would be 9:30 PM, not 8:30.

To make matters worse, the fourth person in our party was running about 10 minutes late and arrived around 8:35 PM. Instead of being able to settle in and enjoy the evening, he had to rush to place his order because we were told the kitchen was essentially closing. For a restaurant that advertises serving until 10:00 PM, this was frustrating and set the tone for the rest of the night.

Throughout the evening, that same employee appeared annoyed, distracted, and more interested in joking around with the female staff than taking care of guests. When he brought our food to the table, we pointed out that the rice was supposed to be crab rice, but it wasn’t. Instead of handling it professionally, he visibly looked irritated, turned toward the staff sitting at the bar, and asked, “Whose table is this?” His attitude made us feel like we were inconveniencing him simply by asking about our order.

As for the food, it was okay. I ordered the Bussin’ Salmon, and the salmon itself was well-seasoned and delicious. The corn was also very good. However, the rice was hard and wasn’t the crab rice that was listed with the meal, which was disappointing, we did get the rice after.

A birthday dinner should feel welcoming and enjoyable. Unfortunately, one employee’s attitude overshadowed what could have been a nice evening. It honestly felt like the staff was more focused on closing early than providing a good dining experience to the guests who were already there.

Thank you again to Lydia for doing her best. She was professional, attentive, and kind despite the situation. I hope management addresses both the inconsistency between the posted kitchen hours and what guests are being told, as well as the customer service from certain staff members. The restaurant is nice, but based on this experience, we wouldn’t rush back.

Recently visited with Wifey and Overall 3 out 5
Friendly staff and greeted as We came in. The manager (or Owner not sure) greeted us. It was Our first visit. The atmosphere is a Very Nice Vibe, with R&B music playing in the background. Unfortunately the Service was very slow from beginning to end..and it seemed like a very slow night (Monday)
From the drink (just lemonade) to the appetizer to the meal was a long wait. Seem like they only had 1 server (there was another one who ran food)
Once the food was arrived—I will say that it Was Hot! (except for the gumbo appetizer) Good Flavor on everything..My Wife Salmon did have great crisp edges which She likes but the inside was a bit overcooked/dry. I had the Afta Church Plate (wings). I let my Wife taste my greens and She Loved them and She normally doesn’t care for greens lol…The portion sizes were good.
A little small inside so making a reservation is recommended on a busier day. Hopefully the Service part can pickup, because We love dining out and trying different places.

Our experience at Virgil’s Gullah Kitchen & Bar in Conyers was disappointing, to say the least. We ordered the “Aftuh Church Meal,” along with gumbo and two sides of sautéed spinach, but the food quality did not meet expectations. The gumbo was served cold, which immediately threw things off, and the spinach tasted overwhelmingly like butter with little to no seasoning, lacking the flavor you’d expect from a restaurant known for Gullah cuisine.

Service was another major issue. Our server, Lydia, lacked basic customer service skills and attentiveness. I would honestly rate the service a 2 out of 5. We spent long stretches of time waiting for her to check on us, and refills we requested never came. When we did ask for a refill, there seemed to be some frustration on her end, and despite requesting lemonade, we were brought sweet tea instead, which added to the overall inconvenience.

The atmosphere itself was just okay—nothing particularly inviting or memorable. Given the reputation and the potential this place has, the experience fell short across the board. Between the lackluster food, poor service, and average ambiance, it’s hard to justify a return visit. Hopefully, improvements are made because this spot definitely has the potential to be much better.

We had our 1st visit at Virgil’s Conyers location yesterday and had an amazing time! The Aftuh’ Church plate was delicious! The music was great and the service we received from Zachary was outstanding! Zachary was fast and very attentive to our table. The only small hiccup was with our reservation, which the hostess could not find. But, with our email confirmation available the manager made it right and sat us down right away. We also loved that the manager frequently visited our table. Alongside the other guest tables, to make sure we were all good and enjoying ourselves. Being that this was our 1st visit and it went so well, we will definitely become repeat customers.

Was visiting from Houston and decided to stop by for lunch with my family. The food was delicious and the service was great! Everyone was so friendly. Tee was our waitress and she was so accomodating. My only suggestion would be to turn the music down a bit during the day. It was a great playlist but it was difficult to talk with each other with the club-like feel at 2pm. We will definitely stop by again when we're back in Georgia!
